The second pastor was the Reverend Luke V.
McCabe, the brother of Father Michael. Father Luke was born on
May 7, 1846 and came to this country at the age of eighteen. He was ordained a priest on
April 5, 1869 by Archbishop Wood. He was a professor at Saint Charles Seminary. He taught
Hebrew, Greek, Sacred Scripture and Sacred Theology. He was also known as one of the
greatest authorities in Canon Law. When Father Michael, who was nineteen years his junior, died in October of 1918, Father Luke was appointed to succeed him. He served our parish for eleven years. When he died on January 5, 1930 at age 84 he was the oldest priest in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. |
