 In the Chapel
of the Crucified Christ on the side of Saint Matthias Church are buried the first two
pastors of the parish.The Reverend Michael J. McCabe, the founding pastor, was born in Virginia County Cavan Ireland on March 16,1866, the son of Patrick and Elizabeth McCabe. He was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia on June 11, 1892. and was appointed founding pastor of St. Matthias Parish on February 2, 1906. By October of 1906 the foundations for the new church had already been set and the cornerstone was laid on October 7th. Father McCabe directed the building of the church and rectory. He worked diligently to form a parish of dedicated people. He died on October 26, 1918 and was buried in the chapel of the church which he had built.
