A program to provide meals
for the isolated sick and homebound. Fill trays (available at the entrances
to the church) with a balanced meal (usually leftovers from dinner). Place the trays in the freezer on the back porch of the Rectory.
Volunteers are also needed to deliver these meals.

Alcoholics Anonymous (AA)
This group is not a parish organization,
however, it does meet in our Parish Center on Tuesday evenings. The purpose
of the group is to offer support to those dealing with the problems of
alcohol addiction.

Volunteers from the Parish who give one hour a week on a rotating basis.
They take care of the altar linens, vestments, and light cleaning of the
sanctuary.

ministry is open to boys and girls in grades 4 through 12. Altar
Servers assist the priest at Mass and at other liturgies. Masses are

Blood Drive

Matthias Parish hosts the American Red Cross Blood Drive in the spring and
fall of each year. Volunteers, on an as-needed basis, are needed to
make telephone calls, send correspondence, and register people on the day of
the Blood Drive.

Appeal, which assists the poor and those in need in our Archdiocese.
CYO

activities for our young people. Adults coach, encourage and support our

Prepares the
annual parish directory which consists of a listing of all our parish family

Ministers of Holy Communion

Appointed by the Cardinal to serve for 3 years, these ministers assist the
Parish priests with the distribution of Holy Communion at Mass, and bring
the Eucharist to the sick, homebound, as well as those in area nursing

This ministry of needlework created in prayer will create needlework
items for persons in need; for example, the sick or the bereaved.
Members will create items in prayer either in community or alone, united in

This
committee, composed of Parishioners active in the liturgical ministries,
strives to implement the liturgical directives of the Church in our Parish,
as well as aids in their application to the existing dynamics of Sunday,
Holyday liturgy and other liturgical celebrations throughout the year.

Music Ministry

This
ministry includes Cantors, Choir Members and Instrumentalists. Cantors are
assigned on a rotating basis. The choir rehearses Thursday evenings and
sings approximately twice a month at the 10:30 a.m. Mass and at other
special liturgies from September to May. Music reading knowledge is
helpful, but not required. Parishioners who play instruments are also
encouraged to share their talents.

(Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults)

Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults is the program through which
non-Catholic people prepare to join the Catholic Church after a period of
inquiry, instruction, sharing faith and life experiences and conversion.
The group meets throughout the year one evening a week.

Saint John’s Hospice

Donations of casseroles are collected in the Parish Gym on the 3rd
Monday of each month. St. John’s Hospice, located at 1221 Race St.,
Philadelphia, is operated by the Archdiocese to help inner-city homeless men
with food, shelter, counseling & health problems.

Society has clothing drives approximately twice a year at Saint Matthias.

Senior Servers

men and women, aged 55+, volunteer their time during the week and on
Saturdays to minister as altar servers at Funeral Masses. They also serve at
other Masses on an as-needed basis.
